A Family Tradition
Liza Myers Borches, owner and President of Volvo of Charlottesville, is a 4th generation Virginia car dealer. It all started in 1902 when H. Carter Myers Sr., her great grandfather, founded Stockdell-Myers Hardware Store in downtown Petersburg, Virginia. As automobiles started to emerge, he learned to build them from kits and sold them through the shop. When Ford began manufacturing the vehicles, the hardware store was liquidated and reincorporated as a Ford dealer in 1924. Petersburg Motor Company was born.
During the Great Depression and World War II, Liza's great aunt, Elizabeth Myers, and Liza's grandfather, H. Carter Myers, Jr. kept the dealership going. Then in 1965, Liza's father, H. Carter Myers III, joined the business. He is now Chief Executive Officer of Petersburg Motor Company, dba Carter Myers Automotive. Liza joined the company in 2003 after working with American Honda for almost seven years. She returned to her hometown of Charlottesville and purchased the Volvo franchise from Herb Brown, who had been operating in this same location for over 20 years.
